Sustaining Partnerships
Strengthening the Industry and the Meat Science Discipline
AMSA created the Sustaining Partnership program to enable companies and institutions to ally themselves with the association in pursuit of our common goal to foster the principles of meat science and technology. Since 1995, the Sustaining Partners have enhanced AMSA programs such as meat judging, scientific information outreach and student development.
AMSA members benefit from access to timely, unbiased scientific information, networking opportunities with peers, interaction with leaders in industry, academia and government, continuing education and leadership development through unique and innovative programs and workshops.
In addition to the member benefits outlined above, Sustaining Partners have the opportunity to realize the following advantages:

Description of Benefits
Advisory Council
The Advisory Council meets regularly to provide the AMSA Board with feedback on industry issues. The Board looks to the council for guidance in launching new educational programs as well as recommendations on topics for white papers and other information resources.
Online Career Center
AMSA’s job center at careers.meatscience.org provides employers with access to resumes from AMSA members and others looking for jobs in the industry. Sustaining partners receive discounts for this service.
Career Fair Booth
Each year at the Reciprocal Meat Conference, a career fair is organized primarily for the over 200 students that attend the conference to interact directly with potential employers. All sustaining partners receive a complimentary booth at the career fair.
Exposure in AMSA programs
Sustaining partners will be recognized at the Reciprocal Meat Conference and throughout the year in the association’s eNews publication and through meatscience.org, the premier web site for meat science professionals.
Continuing Education
AMSA is planning an expansive professional development and continuing education initiative. The courses and learning materials developed by AMSA members will enable the industry to keep its workforce up-to-date as science rapidly extends the bounds of human knowledge.
Currently, AMSA conducts the PORK 101 short courses as well as the meat judging program, RMC and Meat Industry Research Conferences. In development are QA101, a symposium on quality assurance programs and Pork 100, an eLearning overview course focusing on pork production systems.
Looking to the Future
The AMSA Sustaining Partners enable the association to expand its efforts in areas like these . . .
Educating Policy Makers
AMSA already produces white papers on key scientific issues that directly affect the meat industry. Papers on naturally cured processed meats and the use of carbon monoxide in modified atmosphere packaging systems were released in 2007. Work has begun on projects related to the role of meat in the diet.
Preparing Tomorrow’s Workforce
AMSA’s commitment to student development continues today as strong as it was over 75 years ago when the first meat judging programs were developed. AMSA provides leadership training and professional development for students and young scientists, enabling them to enhance their lives while multiplying their impact on the future meat and food industry.
How to Join
A Gold Sustaining Partner company or institution must invest as little as $5,000 annually in the sustaining partner program. A Gold Sustaining Partner may become a Legacy Sustaining Partner by contributing at least an additional $5,000 to sponsor one or more AMSA educational programs.
To add your company or institution to the roll of Sustaining Partners, contact AMSA Executive Director Thomas Powell (tpowell@meatscience.org). We look forward to your participation.
