Graduate Students Compete in 2006 Poster Competition

  PhD and Masters students competed in the Graduate Student poster competition held on Sunday, June 18th at the 59th Reciprocal Meat Conference in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. The purpose of the American Meat Science Association Graduate Student Research Poster Competition is to encourage students to:

  • Engage in high quality, sound and pertinent meat research;
  • Gain experience in presentation of scientific papers;
  • Demonstrate poise and mental agility before their peers;
  • Develop skills in effective communication for dissemination of research information; and
  • Acquire an appreciation of the role of the Association and its members in advancing the well being of the meat industry through research

 This year the Masters Competition was won by Chancie Moore, Colorado State University. Chancie was awarded with $200 and a plaque. Joshua Shook, University of Georgia, was second receiving $175 and a plaque and Clay Talton, University of Georgia, was third, receiving $150 and a plaque.

 The PhD Competition was won by Amanda Weaver, Purdue University. Amanda was presented with $200 and a plaque for winning. Scott Updike, The Ohio State University, came in second and received $175 and a plaque. Jennie Hodgen, University of Nebraska, was third and awarded $150 and a plaque. 

These results were announced and students were recognized during the Opening General Session at RMC. Congratulations to all of the participants and thanks to Tyson Foods, Inc. for sponsoring this event!
