Based on your experience with AMSA and your knowledge of the current state of meat science and the meat industry, what do you believe is the biggest challenge facing this association?

Our members look to our association for meat science knowledge and professional development opportunities. We serve a diverse group of people and our member surveys show that some members think we are not scientific enough, and others think we are not practical enough. At the same time, our members face time and budgetary constraints in both their professional and personal lives. We need to identify creative ways to respond to all of our member’s needs, while maintaining fiscal integrity.

As a potential AMSA officer what would be the most important thing for the next Board of Directors to do?

The Key Result Areas and the Priorities and Implementation of the AMSA Strategic plan were last updated on November 29, 2006. The next Board (and all future Boards) needs to regularly assess our progress on this plan and report these metrics and the status of action plans to achieve the stated critical objectives of the association to our members on a regular basis.
