Get ready for the 2017 Iron Chef Product Development competition at the AMSA 70th RMC in College Station, TX! This year’s Iron Chef will be on Saturday, June 17 at the Rosenthal Meat Center Texas A&M University
This one of a kind event will allow students a chance to expand their knowledge base in the area of product development and value-added products related to meat science, as well as network with fellow students and industry professionals. Participants will have a variety of equipment and ingredients at their disposal in order to utilize a “mystery protein” to develop a meat-based dish alongside their teammates from various schools, with the guidance and supervision of premier chefs and food scientists. A panel of judges in combination with a popular vote will decide the winning products, which will be announced during RMC.
This year, students will go through various short workshops involving product development in general, as well as methods of preparing and utilizing this year’s mystery protein specifically. Students will be working in the meat lab, gaining valuable exposure on how other universities operate, prepare, and merchandise different products. Participants should leave Iron Chef with a better understanding of value added meat products and product development skills they may take back to their university and utilize throughout their careers in meat science.
This is an outstanding opportunity for all students, regardless of product development or culinary experience. Not only is Iron Chef a tremendous learning experience it also provides the chance for friendships and networking opportunities that will last a lifetime. We would like to keep this an open event and not cap attendance, however there is only so much room in the lab, so make sure to register for the Iron Chef competition on your RMC registration as soon as possible! We look forward to showcasing students’ creativity this year in College Station, Texas!
