Member Recruitment and Retention Task Force

Purpose

To determine specific steps the association should take to build member numbers through recruitment and retention.

Description

To continue effectively serving the needs of the meat science community, it is thought that AMSA needs to broaden its membership base and work on enhancing loyalty and retention with current AMSA members. To that end, the charge for the member recruitment and retention task force is to

·         Address member turnover issues

·         Determine the current level of member turnover among professional and student members.

·         Determine the specific causes of turnover

·         Recommend specific solutions for addressing appropriate turnover issues.

·         Recommend member recruitment strategies

·         Determine potential pools of individuals who would benefit from AMSA members

·         Recommend specific ways to reach these individuals with membership information.

Timing

Work should begin immediately to address the turnover issues. Task force members are asked to work with staff to gather necessary information to complete these evaluations. A final report, including recommendations for specific options will be presented to the AMSA board at its spring, 2005 board meeting.

Membership

·         Number of appointed members: 4-8

·         Length of term: until project completion (estimated to be no more than one year)

·         Appointed by the AMSA Executive Committee
