Meat Industry Research Conference Planning

Purpose

To plan, promote and conduct the Annual Meat Industry Research Conference in cooperation with other co-sponsoring organizations.

Principal Duties

·         Solicit topic suggestions from other professionals in meat science to insure that the MIRC continues to address those research issues of current and future concern to meat scientists and the meat industry in general.

·         Meet to determine program content and speakers. This meeting should be held as soon as possible following the previous year’s MIRC. Program chair should work with AMSA and AMI staff to coordinate time and location of meeting.

·         Work with AMSA and AMI staff to recruit speakers for the conference.

·         Committee members are expected to make the initial contacts with most speakers and secure the agreement to speak. Logistical/contractual details are handled by staff.

·         Provide assistance and guidance to speakers on topic content and presentation to ensure a successful program.

·         Help other co-sponsors to publicize and promote attendance at this event.

·         Assist in the conduct and operation of the conference, primarily by serving as chairs for the various sessions.

·         Solicit comments and program evaluations from attendees and transmit this information to speakers and future planning committees.

Membership

·         Number of appointed members: 9

·         Length of term: 3 years (calendar year)

·         Chair/Vice Chair: Appointed annually by the AMSA President.

·         Vacancies: appointed by the AMSA Executive Committee.

·         All appointments to this committee are made in cooperation with the American Meat Institute and the AMI Foundation.
