AMSA's Mission
AMSA is a broad-reaching organization of individuals that discovers, develops, and disseminates its collective meat science knowledge to provide leadership, education, and professional development.
The mission incorporates the following concepts:
- Broad-reaching: AMSA's membership encompasses the the entire meat industry including red meat and poultry. Members are located in a number of countries in addition to the U.S. and represent industry, academia, government and other associations.
- Organization of individuals: The Association's members are individual meat scientists. AMSA is not a trade association, but works to meet the needs of its individual scientists. This differentiates AMSA from other organizations such as the American Meat Institute or the National Meat Association which are composed of company members.
- Collective meat science knowledge: AMSA incorporates expertise from traditional animal science and food science disciplines resulting in a more comprehensive approach to meat science than individuals can obtain through affiliations with groups like the Institute of Food Technologists or the American Society of Animal Scientists.
- Meat leadership, education and professional development: Our core strengths are information dissemination through publications, conferences and educational programs and professional development of our members. The Association's focus is not on lobbying for public policy development or other industry special interests.
