The Intercollegiate Processed Meats Clinic (IPMC) is held in conjunction with the Meat Industry Research Conference and the WorldWide Food Expo. The 2009 IPMC Committee has arranged a fantastic program that is limited to AMSA Graduate and Undergraduate student members only!

Program Description

The 2009 Intercollegiate Processed Meats Clinic (IPMC) Committee has arranged a fantastic program for students interested in the meat processing industry. The 2009 program includes a social mixer, speaker program, facility tours, light dinner and career fair on October 25 at the new Sara Lee R & D facility in Downers Grove, IL. Then on October 26-27, attendees will visit meat processing establishments in Chicago and around the surrounding area.

The Monday tours will include OSI, Ed Miniat, and Armour Eckrich Dry Sausage. On Monday evening attendees will experience Second City Show and Dinner in Chicago. On Tuesday afternoon after taking tours to Quantum Foods and Kerry Ingredients, attendees will listen to David Kramer, COD, from College of DuPage speak about meats in the Culinary Arts.

Social Event

Second City and Dinner (Included as part of registration. Please do not register, we will register for you.) "Since 1959, The Second City has established itself as a Chicago landmark and a national treasure. The theatre that launched the careers of such comic greats as John Belushi, Mike Myers, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, and more offers nightly comedy shows, as well as a variety of other programs and services."

Travel Options for IPMC Attendees to MIRC

Option 1

Stay at the Courtyard Marriott in Naperville and take the Chicago Metra train to McCormick Place.

Transportation would be needed from the hotel to the Naperville train station.

Train fare to Chicago Union Station would be $4.75 per person one way. Train takes about 1 hour to get downtown.

From there, a bus would need to be taken to McCormick place. Many of the hotels have shuttles to and from McCormick Place that would allow you to avoid bus fares.

Option 2

Stay at the Courtyard Marriott in Naperville if you have your own transportation and drive to McCormick Place.

The drive from Naperville to McCormick Place can be anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on traffic.

Tolls will cost you anywhere from $1.60 to $2.00 each way depending on the route taken.

Parking at McCormick Place is $19. Be aware that some locations only accept cash.

Option 3

Stay at a hotel downtown and take a shuttle to McCormick Place.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Delegates who are unable to attend the Intercollegiate Processed Meats Clinic will receive a full refund of registration fees less ($25 service fee), provided that a written request is received in AMSA Headquarters by September 17, 2009. Refunds will not be considered for requests made after this date. Substitutes are welcome.
